Takedown Policy
Spoken Word Services is hosted by Glasgow Caledonian University, a Registered Scottish Charity (No: SC021474). All material in the Spoken Word Services repository is intended to be used for educational, non-profit use only.
We have a legal deposit agreement with the BBC which allows us to host their radio and television programmes in our repository. Where BBC material contains additional third party rights we always attempt to contact rights holders in order to clear them. If you believe that you are a rights holder and you have NOT been contacted by us then please get in touch so that we can resolve the matter.
Our take down policy is as follows.
1. If Spoken Word Services receives a complaint relating to either of the following then the item(s) in question will be taken down immediately pending further investigation.
a) Copyright violation
b) Any other IPR violation
2. Spoken Word Services will also consider taking down content on receipt of complaints other than those above.
3. If Spoken Word Services cannot reach agreement with a complainant then the item(s) in question will be removed from the repository on proof of
a) Copyright violation
b) Any other IPR violation
c) Any other legal violation
4. If the violation relates only to a segment of a whole item then we may remove only the offending content and not the whole item. (eg, in the case of one person’s contribution to a longer programme where the other rights holders have granted their permission.)
5. Withdrawn items will not be deleted per se but will be removed from view.
6. In order to avoid broken links URLs will continue to point to ‘tombstone’ citations with:
a) a note explaining the reason(s) for takedown
b) where it is possible, links to similar/replacement items
7. The metadata of withdrawn items will not be searchable.
8. Where the reason for take down or withdrawal is found to be un- or only partly substantiated the content may be re-exposed into the repository, with any appropriate amendments to the content itself or access arrangements.
