Spoken Word Services has a deposit licence agreement with the BBC. This allows us to post material on a network accessible by educational users. Educational users are also permitted to download BBC audio and video materials for research or teaching. Spoken Word Services is responsible for clearing all third party rights. The BBC warrants that they will provide Spoken Word Services with all third party rights information. Where rights holders cannot be traced, Spoken Word Services will make BBC materials available under the auspices of the ERA licence, where applicable.

If you believe that you hold rights in any materials in our repository, and have not been contacted, then pleaseread our Takedown Policy and contact the service immediately.

Spoken Word resources are for educational purposes only. This means that you can download them for use in teaching, presentations, research, and student assignments. Use is also authorised for student or faculty portfolios, term papers, theses, and dissertations. Audio or video resources should always be clearly identified as Spoken Word records, and you must provide a link to the appropriate record in our online repository. You must not put Spoken Word materials on publicly accessible webpages.

Publication, redistribution to persons other than Authorised Users and all commercial use is expressly prohibited. Unless there is a clear statement to the contrary, products are only licensed for use by staff, students and other persons ‘engaged in the normal business of the licensed institution’.

We have an End-User Licence Agreement, which you must read and understand before proceeding to register and use our repository. Clicking on the ‘Sign Up’ button constitutes an acceptance of the conditions of this license.

If you are in any doubt about the appropriate use of material you have downloaded from Spoken Word, then please contact us for advice.
