Dr. Douglas Chalmers – Talking Media and Economics

Douglas Chalmers has been a lecturer in Media and Cultural Economics in the Cultural Business division at Glasgow Caledonian University since 2001. He has a wide range of interests including the Media, Economics and Languages.

After graduating he spent much of his time working with the Communist Party in both Glasgow and London until it was dissolved in 1991. In 1995 he completed a Phd at Glasgow Caledonian University on the subject of the economics of Gaelic arts and culture. Along with a lecturing post at Caledonian he is currently a member of the BBC Audience Council, Scotland. The Audience Council is responsible for reporting back to the BBC Trust on the overall performance of the BBC in Scotland.

The ‘Talking Media and Economics’ collection is comprised of 24 programmes that Dr. Chalmers uses as teaching resource to supplement his lectures. The collection contains BBC archive material on various subjects including the Zircon Affair and the Hutton Report.
