After 114 days of captivity the BBC news journalist Alan Johnston was released by his captors on Wednesday 4th July 2007. However on the 8th August another important anniversary will take place that is closely linked to Alan Johnston’s ordeal. This is the anniversary of Britain’s longest-held hostage John McCarthy’s release from militants in Lebanon after more than five years in captivity.
